Kilmovee is only a 10min drive from Ballaghaderreen town and it is well signposted. Follow the R293 out of town, take a right onto the R325 to Kilmovee.
Kilmovee is a small village that is abundant in archaeology, history and folklore. The community have their own heritage centre ‘Cois Tine’ which was opened in 2004 in the Community Centre. ‘Cois Tine’ was designed to create an interest in local culture and preserve the area’s past. There is also a small Community Museum within the centre for the collection and preservation of items from the community.
The majority of the folklore of Kilmovee revolves around St. Movi who introduced Christianity to the area. Movi is referred to in the book ”The life of St. Finian of Clonard” as one of the ”twelve apostle -students” who were sent out by St. Finian to continue to spread Christianity in Ireland.
There is so many historic monuments to visit in Kilmovee including the famous Kilcashel stone fort, ogham stone and holy wells.
