Gorthaganny is a small village on the westerly rim of Roscommon bordering Co. Mayo. It is situated on the R293 halfway between Loughglynn and Ballyhaunis.

Gorthaganny is home to the famous Roscommon footballer Dermot Earley. A memorial was unveiled in his honor in August 2011. In the words of Martin Walshe ”It is a fitting tribute to our Hero Dermot, a great leader, an outstanding sportsman and a true gentleman.”
